Making Money Online : Why You Should Set Goals @eBay #2

(VIDEO COMING SOON)

Why you should set goals when starting your Ebay venture.

  • IT KEEPS YOU ON TRACK.

When working from home, or anywhere, under your own rules, things can easily go sideways quickly.

Distractions.

Whether its Youtube, Kids, Socialising or even cleaning that one thing you have been avoiding cleaning for the past 3 years and now suddenly feel the urge to clean… Distractions are everywhere when we do not have someone over looking us to keep us working hard. Having goals, especially goals with due dates, can really keep us on track and keep us focused on what’s important.

  • HELPS YOU TO SEE WHAT IS ACTUALLY POSSIBLE/REALISTIC TO DO

When we first start setting goals some of us are able to measure out exactly how much they are able to do, known through previous experiences. Whereas some of us can get a little too excited and set goals so high, that will only cause us to feel less motivated later on, if we are unable to achieve them the way we set out. So we need to find a perfect balance between realistic and dreaming big, You do not want to be 100% realistic or 100% head in the clouds, more of a 50/50 or a 70/30 – it’s all dependant on your confidence levels, and Goal setting and reviewing can help with that.

I remember I set a goal to list every item of clothing I had on to Ebay by the end of that year (around 3-4 months I had left) To this day, years later, I still have not listed all of them… I Barely listed any of them, I soon realised it was unrealistic and that intimidated me. (there was over 500+ items)

At first you can just write down any goals you feel like, big or small, but its good to reflect on whether these goals are actually achievable every month or so. Using a tool called SMART will help you with this.

To make sure your goals are clear and reachable, each one should be:

Specific (simple, sensible, significant).

Measurable (meaningful, motivating).

Achievable (agreed, attainable).

Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).

Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).

Professor Rubin also notes that the definition of the SMART acronym may need updating to reflect the importance of efficacy and feedback. However, some authors have expanded it to include extra focus areas; SMARTER, for example, includes Evaluated and Reviewed.

  • HELPS YOU MAKE DECISIONS

Goals can really play a big factor on what direction you take when selling online, or really doing anything. They help you to focus on what is important to you, and what you want your future to look like.

If you know the end destination, it makes it so much easier for you to figure out how to get there.

For example, you want to make £100 a day as a goal, well you would think what are the products I need to sell to get me there? Am I going to invest first or go in with drop shipping? Is my level of knowledge on Ebay enough to get me there or do I need to set goals to study Ebay functions? Etc.

There is so many steps you may have to take before you reach your end goal, and you are able to make better decisions once you know what you want out of all of this.

  • TO KEEP YOU MOTIVATED

Imagine starting a business and you have no idea why you started it in the first place… what would be the point in continuing after that?

Goals keep you motivated, goals keep you excited!

Think back to any one time when you achieved something you set out for and really worked hard to obtain. How did it feel?

Now think about a time when you just did something maybe for the sake of someone else or just because it was what you thought you had to do, most times people in these situations tend to burn out quicker, give up or not even start.

Your goals will be what keeps you listing items, researching the best current Ebay practices, educating yourself on how to run a business or a side hustle online.

Goals will keep you running back for more!

If you ever feel like you are losing motivation, look back on your goals and try your best to imagine how it’ll feel like once you achieve it successfully.

  • HELP TO ACHIEVE MAXIMUM SUCCESS

Without goals how can you know where you may need to improve? Know what to work towards? To have anything even close to 100% success you need to define what that success is, you won’t just stumble across it.

You have to set goals in order to visualise what your future will look like and then you can put in your action plan.

Even saying something as simple as, “I want to make a little extra money on the side”, that in itself is a goal, and once you sell your first item and get that extra bit of money, you have achieved the goal. So what’s next?

  • KEEPS YOU ACCOUNTABLE

Goals keep you accountable, not just to anybody, but to you – the main character of this story.

You are more than just words when you achieve your goals, you are now able to prove it through the actions you take and the successes you make.

This is where reviewing your work will really help you out.

Taking time to look back on your goals and seeing whether you are keeping on track, and if not figuring out why, and adjusting to suit your needs in that situation. When I started taking Ebay seriously I decided that I would make sure to post an item online every single day, even if it was just one. There were time’s where I did not do even one, and I had to look back and ask myself why, and readjust to make sure I could achieve what I had set out to do, because at the end of the day I’m only letting myself down or raising myself up.

  • So, setting goals.

Do you have any goals set for your Ebay/ online selling journey?

Could be as simple as making a set amount of money, getting rid of old stuff, or even developing a business. These are end goals, remember that you also have to set mini goals that will help you achieve the big goals too.

Before you leave, if you haven’t already, take that goal(or at least 3 goals) and write it down somewhere for you, somewhere that maybe you look at regularly. If you want to take it a step further, Make a little board with pictures maybe showing why you are doing this, maybe you want to pay off some bills and go on a nice holiday ( so you can have some photos of the holiday destination you want to go to) or you want to have a successful business, (so you can have pictures of you in a CEO position or maybe you want a physical shop too- have fun with it) Get excited about your goals, and if you feel like you can’t hold the image of your dream in your head a picture board might be perfect for you.
